
Sol singer Jerry Butler is known as Iceman at the age of 85
Jerry Butler, known as ‘The Iceman’, died at the age of 85. Butler, whose harmonious, lively voice entertained the audience for decades, died after a long battle with Parkinson’s disease at his home in Chicago on February 24, 2012. Butler’s career was more than six decades long, with more than 55 hit songs, which kept an indomitable sign of R&B Jenner. His evergreen classic songs include “Cable The Strong Sartiva”, “Make It It Is On Assault”, “Need Billong”, “Brand New Me” and “Never Give You To”. His powerful story and sensitive depth made him one of the most influential voices of SOL music.
Before starting a successful single career, Butler was the leading singer of Curtis Millfield with the famous R&B Group the Impression. The group played an important role in the sound formation of the 1960s and was known for social conscious music, which was deeply involved with the civil rights movement. In 1991, the Impression of Impression was officially recognized with the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
Butler’s contribution was also out of music. In addition to his brilliant career as an artist, he also worked as a public servant held in the Cook County Commissioner from 1985 to 2018. During his tenure, Butler improved the community, especially in health and public infrastructure in such initiatives.
He served as Vice Chairman of the Construction Committee and Chairman of the Health and Hospital Committee. Born in Chicago and growing Butler was also out of music and politics. His craft and his promise to the community made him a beloved person in his city. He married his wife Annette in 9, he was a background choreographer for him before he became a lifetime partner. He died in 2019, which caused deep vacuum in his life.
Butler’s death ended in an era of Soul Music, but his legacy was alive through unforgettable songs that he had given to the world. His close friend Marty, who confirmed the news to TMZ, described him as “a great person”, which could never be forgotten.
